RAWALPINDI,  (Parliament Times) : Commissioner Rawalpindi Capt (retd) Muhammad Mehmood has said that commercial places including shops, plazas and hotels should not only be fined but also sealed immediately for violation of Corona SOPs so that if Corona virus exists there, citizens can be protected from it. He said that the second wave of Corona was intensifying and therefore strict measures were needed in the public interest. He said that the first wave of Corona reached its peak in May, while it decreased significantly in June of the following month, while the intensity of the second wave peaked in November and is expected to increase in January as well.

He said this while presiding over a meeting at the office of Deputy Commissioner, Rawalpindi to review the situation of corona and polio.

Commissioner Rawalpindi Captain (Retd) Muhammad Mehmood said that smart lockdown was carried out at 25 places in Rawalpindi district out of which smart lockdown has been completed in four places while the rest will be completed by December 25. He said that now the trend of new cases of corona is also changing and cases of corona virus are coming from different places instead of a specific street or area. He said that from March to December 16, 2020, 11,095 people in Rawalpindi district have been infected with the corona virus while 490 people have lost their lives due to corona. He said that corona was still rampant in the month of December and 74 people had died due to corona while more corona patients were being reported from Rawalpindi town and Pothohar town in Rawalpindi city.

Commissioner Rawalpindi Muhammad Mehmood said that 100% results of anti-polio campaign in Rawalpindi district should be achieved and all polio campaigns conducted in two years 2019 and 2020 should be reviewed and shortcomings in their planning and implementation should be found and should be eliminated. He said that due to polio campaigns in November and December, the polio virus is getting less in the environmental samples of Rawalpindi.

Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Capt. R. Anwar-ul-Haq, officers of Health, Education and other concerned departments were also present in the meeting.
