Political opponents say that though the govt completed one year, this tenure brought chaos and restlessness as the developmental activities were halted.
Islamabad (Parliament Times): One year of the coalition government in Azad Jammu and Kashmir led by Prime Minister AJK Chaudhry Anwar ul Haq has been completed.
On completion of a year a reception was hosted in which Prime Minister AJK Ch. Anwar ul-Haq threw light on the one-year performance of his government.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Azad Kashmir said that he introduced good governance in Azad Kashmir as during his government mafias have been eradicated, and now no powerful element can challenge the writ of the government. Now the trust of the people is increasing in the political system in AJK. He said that PC-I of the housing society for the Kashmiri migrants who came from Indian-held Kashmir will be issued by June 30.
Prime Minister Azad Kashmir said that Indian conspiracies will be crushed with iron hands in Azad Kashmir. Prime Minister Azad Kashmir said that now 60% of the budget has been spent on development and transparency has been ensured in it.
Chaudhry Anwar ul Haq said that a lot of change has been brought in the construction of roads, social sector programs, electricity, health, and education sectors on a large scale in Azad Kashmir. A loss of Rs. eight billion has been reduced to Rs. one billion
He said that the attendance of the employees has been ensured in the health and education sectors. Prime Minister Azad Kashmir said that improvement is being seen day by day in the district hospitals of Azad Kashmir, and the government is providing subsidies to the people of Azad Kashmir.
Prime Minister Azad Kashmir said that more than Rs. 23 billion is being provided in subsidies for the provision of food items, clean water, and cheap electricity to the people in Azad Kashmir
On one side the Prime Minister tells a success story of his government but on the other hand, the public view is different. The opponents of the government have termed the claims of PM AJK for bringing good governance as hollow statements.
The political opponents said that though the government has completed one year, his tenure brought chaos and restlessness as the developmental activities were halted. The government employees as well as municipal representatives are on the roads to protest for their rights in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
One valid point that the opponents of the AJK government are raising is that the Public Accounts Committee and standing committees of the legislative assembly could not be formed due to which the parliamentary system is practically paralyzed.
The opponents of the AJK government also say that the current AJK government ignored public interests, the silence of assembly members on fundamental public issues led to political instability, and a vacuum was created which was exploited by anti-Pakistan and self-proclaimed Kashmir supporter groups.
The people also say that the formation of the cabinet was delayed by two months in AJK and the distribution of the portfolios to ministers was kept pending for six months, which adversely affected government affairs.
During the tenure of the sitting government, the universities and medical colleges in AJK are in a financial crisis, universities are closed for several months. During the tenure of the Prime Minister, educated unemployed youth in Azad Kashmir were deprived of employment opportunities by keeping the Public Service Commission inactive for eight months. Similarly, the appointment of a permanent chairman in the accountability bureau was also delayed for a long time by the Prime Minister, which practically halted the process of accountability in the state.
The AJK government formed an action committee to settle the issue of excessive electricity bills, but no action was taken to reduce the bills the PM and government ministers are claiming that subsidy is being given to the people on account of electricity bills.
Now people of AJK are the better judges to evaluate the government’s performance, either they believe in the government’s claims or reject the government policies.
