Islamabad : Efforts are being made to run Islamabad International Airport operations to optimum efficiency. The newly opened airport is fully operational all its operations are being monitored to promptly address any issue, said the Civil Aviation Authority, here on Monday.
“It is a huge success of the CAA that it made the airport fully functional despite of a few teething problems which occur normally when a new project starts working, these and other teething issues are being addressed on emergency and priority basis. All stakeholders including Airlines are being coordinated regularly to ensure smooth operations”, the CAA said in a statement.
It said: “In compliance with the directives of Advisor to Prime Minister on Aviation Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan all its (airport) operations are being monitored minutely and all the stakeholders are onboard to manage any minor issue without any delay.
“The baggage handling system of new airport is now working well and a slight problem occurred while delivering the baggage to passengers has been successfully resolved with the day-and-night efforts of CAA staff.”
It may also be mentioned that airside operations — the most sensitive part of airport operations — are going on smoothly at the new airport and it reflects the professional commitment of air traffic control staff of CAA.
The most advance system of aircraft parking with allied facilities is being managed by CAA engineers and staff in a professional manner.
“On first day of its operations no major incident and disruption was witnessed and it is an ample proof that CAA has rehearsed extensively before commencing its operations otherwise such giant projects usually do have a few problems in the beginning.” It is worth mentioning that transition to the New Airport was conducted without disturbing the flight schedule while such transitions are generally achieved after closing down running airports for a day or two. However operationalization of the new Islamabad International Airport was achieved through very close coordination done by CAA with all stake holders including but not limited to Airlines, ASF, FIA, Customs and various Ground Handling Agencies in a way that almost entire operations were shifted from old to new airport in matter of hours without disturbing or cancelling a single flight.
It may also be pointed out that total 4,500 passengers could easily be seated in its lounges at a time and there is no question of lack of sitting space at the airport.
“Needless to mention here that owing to its state of the art facilities and cutting edge technologies the new Islamabad International Airport could be compared to any top class international airport and is set to join the world’s best airfields.”
Equipped with cutting-edge technologies and ultramodern facilities for passengers to meet the 21st century challenges, the NIIA is also the largest airport of Pakistan. It is capable to serve nine million passengers and 150 metric ton cargo every year, while its modular designs enable the expansion to serve up to 25 million passengers every year by 2025.
“The world’s top airports reflect the quality of life their cities offer, so is the case with the IIAP. The colourful flora, the water ponds and beautiful mountains are part of spectacular and breathtaking sight, which can be viewed from the Super View Corridor. Moving through the airport complex also provides the passengers’ with glimpses of natural landscapes and highlands.
“CAA has engaged sizeable number of its efficient staff of different trades to manage the new airport and its top management is keeping high vigil on its operation to avoid any problem.”
