Islamabad: The Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) has decided to privatize the cleanliness system of the urban and rural areas of the city.
According to media reports MCI would award the contract of cleanliness system of 50 Union Councils of Islamabad on September 28 to private company. The sanitation staff which is 1100 in numbers would be shifted to other departments of civic body.
Approximately Rs 210 million would be spent on the arrangements for destroying garbage daily . The administration of civic body has decided to increase sanitation tax in urban areas besides imposing this tax in rural areas of federal capital.
It is pertinent to mention here that MCI is already running the cleanliness system in 8 sectors of Islamabad under contractual system on which Rs 9 million are being spent every month. Some Rs 60 million is being spent on the salaries of 1100 sanitation staff members in those sectors in which the cleanliness system is run officially.
