The ability to publish on the social web, to have a voice is among the most profound sociological, economic, and political developments of our lifetime. It gives us the power to elevate a “chai wala” to a supermodel. This new power is breathtaking and beautiful. It is very inspirational and revolutionary. However, it can be deadly. Being a public figure is an extremely slippery slope. The public, the audience are hungry predators. They’re waiting for people to slip a little, to fall a little, just so that they could make memes at the expense of their lives. This meme culture is getting toxic day by day. Aamir Liaquat Hussain was on our screen for more than a decade. He was a Pakistani politician, columnist, television host and comedian. Hussain was a top ranking TV anchor and had been listed three times in The 500 influential Muslims worldwide, and was among 100 popular personalities of Pakistan. Despite of all these positive aspects of Hussain people still targeted his personal life and his private life became a permanent staple for public consumption and gossip which ultimately became a reason for his death.
