Islamabad: Due to negligence of Ministry of Interior and Federal Police, the Bakhshi Khan (judicial lock up) situated in district court lacks many basic facilities including clean drinking water facility.
Sources told in the Bakhshi khana (judicial lock), there are no facilities including drinking water, security and others facilities. It is situated near a famous restaurant and influx of visitors at the said restaurant is posing serious threat to the security of prisoners.
The windows of restaurant are opened towards Bakhshi Khan, which can lead to any untoward situation. It has further been revealed that Bakhshi khana has become hub of corruption as prisoners are kept here for short period.
Corrupt police official used to arrange meetings of prisoners with other people by visiting hotels and refreshment centers situated near the Bakhshi Khana. It has been unveiled that some dangerous accused succeeded to flee from Police imprisonment but no special steps were taken to overcome this issue.
Sources further said federal police’s maltreatment with prisoners have become practice of the day as prisoners are jam-packed into a dark room, which is called the Bakhshi khana like goats and sheep. The prisoners are presented in the early morning while they are returned at 4:00 p.m to Adiala jail but there are no basic facilities there in the Bakhshi khana. Until and unless, prisoners do not pay bribe to police officials, they are not allowed to get foodstuff to eat and drink.
There is no proper arrangement for meeting of prisoners with their family members while meeting is arranged after paying Rs 500-1000 to police men deputed there. In a recent incident, a woman Jamila Bibi when tried to meet her son Zohaib, the police officials behaved with her in a rough manner. When accused Zohaib tried to lodge complaint against malpractice with her mother, police officials started torturing him. The screams of Zohaib were heard outside the Bakhshi khan and citizens and lawyers assembled there.
Later policemen locked up Zohaib in a dark room and also threatened his mother that if any complaint was lodged against police, his son will have to face dire consequences. The scared mother appealed the media persons not to report the incident.
