Muzaffarabad: Pasban-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir has announced that a massive rally will be held on the death anniversary of Shaheed Ashraf Sehrai to pay homage to great martyr.

In a statement issued to media here on Wednesday, he said that Kashmiri nation will never forget the sacrifices of the Sahrai family for Kashmir freedom movement.

He said that beloved leader of the Kashmiri people has spent his 70 years of life actively for Islam, the rights of the Kashmiri people and the freedom of the state.

Ghazali said that the martyr fought eternally and tirelessly for the freedom of the nation.

He was of the view that Sehrai not only sacrificed his own life but his son( Junaid Ahmar Sehrai) also got martyrdom in the resistance movement.

“Many young people of their family, the children of martyrs has dedicated themselves for either leaving the occupied state or for jihad”, he maintained.

“Sehrai suffered the hardships of imprisonment from time to time, became victims of oppression and punishment by the Indian rulers several times”, Uzair lamented.

“Ashraf Khan Sehrai fought a historic struggle for the freedom of the state and spent his last days in Indian prisons”, he added.

He said that Sehrai was a brave leader who didnt bow down in front of Indian rulers but preferred imprisonment.

He said that the rally will be held in Muzaffarabad on 5th May to pay tribute to Ashraf Sehrai in which large number of people from different segments of society are expected to participate.

Ashraf Sehrai was the Chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, he had been arrested under PSA in July 2020 and remained imprisoned in Udhampur jail. Later on, his health deteriorated on 4 May 2021 and he complained of breathlessness.

He was subsequently admitted to the Government Medical College, Jammu and died on the next day in the hospital.

Sehrai’s family alleged that he was murdered by the Indian authorities while the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association also alleged that his death was a custodial murder.
