Poverty is a real thing. We all know it. But do you know what is very bad for children? Not being able to afford to feed that kid at school or send them to college. So let’s look into these things and see how they affect kids in poverty. Poor families have trouble paying their bills Many parents who live in poverty can’t even make ends meet so it can be hard to find the right balance between work and home. When a parent makes too much as a single earner, it can be difficult to have enough money to pay for your other expenses including rent, insurance and groceries. As far as food goes if you cannot come up with the funds to pay for food, then you might not be able to give that child a proper meal. It could be because you don’t want to feed him/her with a low-quality diet. Most poor people cannot find healthy options Poor people cannot afford to buy healthy foods to feed their children. They may not know where to begin so they end up eating fast food or eating meals from someone who doesn’t take good care of the ingredients. You just know something isn’t going well when you see this type of food on your plate. It means you are not careful with the food and it also means that the person you’re feeding is not getting proper nutrition. Poor people are unable to get proper education Schools are expensive and students need a lot more than most families. In many cases students are forced to drop out of school or go through academic difficulties because they don’t have enough money to pay for higher education. This leads to long term issues such as lack of job opportunities and low social and mental health outcomes. Poor people are discriminated against Some people will say that children are still learning in a community like an orphanage. However, some of the problems that families face include discrimination. Parents feel threatened by the fact that their children are not “one of those” but they think that is the norm for those that are wealthy. They believe that they must be rich and therefore superior and the fact that they don’t have money to save for a car or a house doesn’t matter. Education is not affordable for everyone Most schools around the world charge very high fees that make it impossible for students to afford their education. For example, in Canada the cost of attending public school in elementary and secondary grades costs about $40,000 and private schooling is a little closer to $80,000 per year. If you really want to learn the subject you have to do it yourself. Poor people are unemployed This is one of the biggest issues for people in poverty and it has nothing to do with unemployment. Many poor people have jobs but they do not earn enough to support themselves so they rely on welfare and government programs. Sometimes you might lose your job which is why you become dependent on welfare. Poor people are unable to get basic necessities It is pretty hard to find a place that serves poor people. Most places only serve the rich and it seems fair to say that there are few resources for poor people. These people live in crowded housing conditions so it is hard to access health services. Another issue is the lack of transportation. Some communities don’t have sidewalks so that means people are not able to walk to their jobs. Also, in situations where there is a problem with finding a doctor, it is harder to get help because the information you need can be misleading. Poor people can’t afford to provide their own food This is important. There are times that people in poverty can’t afford to provide their own food. Often they depend on food banks and charities. Families in poverty often suffer malnutrition because they can’t afford the food needed. People also sometimes turn to cheap and unhealthy foods because they are hungry or the ones that are available are overpriced. Poor people are denied the right to a quality education This is one of the things that we should look into. Education is vital for any country as it allows you to build strong relationships with others around the world. Unfortunately, children in poverty aren’t given a chance to have a quality education. There are so many reasons for this but the main reason is financial constraints. Poor people are denied the opportunity to succeed in life Many children in poverty are not given the opportunity to achieve success in life. Whether it is due to racism, disability, or lack of funding, they are left behind. Those children are unable to pursue knowledge and skills that allow them to create a life beyond struggling. At the same time, the lack of opportunities to develop skills and knowledge that contribute to better lives can make it difficult for kids to have better life quality. Poor people live in unsafe housing conditions A housing market has changed dramatically in recent years due to the pandemic. Now, it is possible that people can afford to live in safer environments with less risk of fire and more privacy. With the new trend towards living alone or with limited family members, some individuals may face increased risks of harm. Poor people are denied the right to proper healthcare Another problem for children and their families is the lack of medical attention. Medical professionals are supposed to care for sick people. Instead, they are forced to treat patients as regular people. This leads to negative consequences for children. Poor people are denied the right to education This is another huge problem for the children in poverty. Many young adults are unable to continue their studies because they lack money. Even after graduating they may not have a decent job and therefore struggle to keep up with the ever-changing society. Poor people live in poor environments and they cannot afford any sort of luxury like air conditioning and heating. In extreme cases, they live without electricity and water. This can have a significant impact on health and can result in serious diseases and illnesses that are preventable in today’s lifestyle. Poor people are denied the right to lead a productive and healthy life Another issue for children is the lack of basic human needs. Parents in poverty are unable to provide for themselves so their children are forced to rely on government assistance. Without a stable income, children and teenagers are unable to receive proper healthcare or education. That means that they are not provided with the necessary tools to lead a healthy and productive life. Poor people are denied the right to a quality life Poor children who grow up in impoverished areas are often unable to enjoy adequate opportunities to develop their talents and abilities. They are deprived of the right to participate in activities and events that contribute to society. Without proper training, their participation might not be beneficial to society and this contributes to their development. Poor people are denied the right to physical exercise Children are forced to sit at home or school doing chores because they are unable to afford to participate in sports and recreational activities. Physical activity and games are essential because it helps improve cognitive function and strengthen mental health. Lack of opportunities to exercise and practice makes kids more prone to obesity and other health issues. Poor people are denied education and employment opportunities Children in poverty are not able to obtain the education and employment they might otherwise benefit from. A lack of education means that children and adolescents will be unable to find work or engage in economic activities. As a result, they are likely to experience further obstacles in developing their career paths. Poor people are denied the right to access quality healthcare The lack of healthcare services for children, especially in disadvantaged areas, has been identified as one of the factors contributing to poor people’s health outcomes. Health is a key factor in determining life expectancy and health is crucial for improving cognitive function and reducing the risk of disease. In conclusion, there are many different aspects to consider. Poor people in poverty live in overcrowded housing conditions without appropriate infrastructure and services.
