Islamabad, (Parliament Times) : Prof. Dr. Jochen Hippler, The Country Director, Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Pakistan Office, has said that Pakistan has high potential to put itself on the track of economic progress, only if it acts upon Charter of the Economy, which is the bright way towards trump of the country.
He expressed these thoughts in an esteemed ceremony of the launch of books “Charter of Economy” and “Charter of Democracy and Beyond” The Way Forward for Institutional Reforms’ which was moderated by Abdullah Dayo at a local hotel in Islamabad on Monday.
“Political and economic instability are the root causes of the country’s dearth; the county needs to utilize all its potential differences and initiate result oriented dialogue among institutions,” he said, adding that how a political row and disagreements are acceptable in such a country where economy is paralyzed, many people are suffering from hunger, inflation and unemployment is on peak, economic situation is bleak?
He urged that Pakistan needs to overcome its economic crises as earliest as possible, which needs political stability, result oriented dialogue and tolerance to acknowledge one another, as governance and economy are interconnected in all the way.
Dr. Hafeez Pasha while criticizing IMF called it Uncle, as it treated us like children, puts us under pressure and has always been ruthless with Pakistan.
He expressed blues during highlighting real economic indicators, saying that during last three years the real per capita income has actually fallen such horribly as it never happened before in Pakistan’s history.
Dr. Hafeez Pasha, while emphasized the need of tax reforms in our country, he said that 85 percent taxes are indirect and only 15 percent are direct taxes; why the government is not focusing on direct taxes? He asked?
He emphasized that Pakistan must learn from the mistakes, join heads seriously and move forward for implementation of the Charter of the Economy for putting the country on the positive track to come out from the economic ruin.
Participants emphasized on the democracy within the political parties and institutional dialogue. Without applying appropriate democratic norms, we won’t be able to overcome problems within the country. They said that political harmony comes if only politicians and parties have agreements on national issues, despite having political differences.
