Islamabad,(Parliament Times): Prominent Kashmiri-born British intellectual and chairman of the Institute of Peace and Development Inspad Board of Governors and International Harmony Council, Dr Khurshid Ahmad Chaudhry, has said that unity of the Muslim Ummah is the need of the hour. Muslim rulers have a role to play. The Kashmir issue demands international attention and implementation of the promise of the right to self-determination.

All avenues for peace and development in the region pass through Kashmir. India’s attempt to destabilize the population in occupied Kashmir through conspiracy will never succeed. He was addressing a dinner hosted by think tank the Institute of Peace and Development INSPAD in his honor here today. Dr. Khurshid Ahmed said that Kashmiris have soaked the struggle for independence with their blood and despite the immense atrocities of India, their spirit and determination did not change. They are committed to freedom.
Prominent historian, writer Colonel (retd) Azam Qadri said that there was an urgent need for effective policy and better strategy on Kashmir and old mistakes should not be repeated. Former Advisor to the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir and eminent intellectual Prof Dr Maqsood Hussain Jafari said that diplomacy on Kashmir should be made more effective and delegations of experts sent to abroad. Altaf Ahmed Bhatt, chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement and senior Hurriyat leader, said that Kashmiris have made and are still making immense sacrifices but they could not get any relief. He thwarted all Indian measures with his sacrifices. Prominent intellectual Afshin Afzal, chairman of Orient News Network, said that we should make every effort with ground realities and wisdom and take practical steps keeping in view all aspects of Kashmir. Syed Zia-ul-Noor, Country Head, Muslim Hands International, said that the Kashmir issue is an internationally recognized dispute and a nuclear flashpoint. Further delay in resolving it could lead to a major accident in the region.
The host of the event, Dr. Sardar Muhammad Tahir Tabassum, President of INSPAD, thanked the participants for coming and paid tribute to Dr. Khurshid Ahmed for his long and effective national, social services.
