LAHORE: Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT), a China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project, has been opened in Lahore for public after the inauguration by Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar.
According to media reports the citizens are happy with this services provided by the government and said that the fare is suitable, whereas the hassle of traffic is avoided as well.
The OLMT service will be operational for 12 hours in the initial phase, starting at 07:30 AM which will continue till 08:30 PM between Ali Town and Dera Gujran Terminals. The fare has been fixed at Rs 40. The project was scheduled to be completed in 27 months but was finished in five years as construction work remained halted at eleven points for sixteen months.
The track is 27.1 kilometers long and 24 stations out of 26 are elevated while two are underground. The terminals have been elegantly decorated. Automatic machines have been placed at the stations to check and recharge card balance. Ticket boxes are made for those who do not possess cards.
The sources said that the operations of the train service will be extended to 16 hours in the future, whereas new fares will be considered after 6 months by the government.
