Islamabad, (Parliament Times) : Gallery 6 Islamabad proudly unveils “5 Sirius,” an exhibition featuring the esteemed winners of the Arjumand Painting Award 2023. This exclusive showcase, opening today, Friday, April 26, highlights the exceptional contributions of five emerging Pakistani artists to the contemporary art landscape.
Initiated by Gallery 6 in 2015, the Arjumand Painting Award aims to recognize and celebrate the extraordinary skills and creativity of budding artists in Pakistan. This biennial event has become a cornerstone in the art community, providing a platform for both commendation and advancement for promising talents.
The fifth edition of the APA, held in November 2023, saw the culmination of exceptional talent, with winners receiving cash prizes exceeding one million Rupees. Appropriately named “5 Sirius” after the brightest star in the night sky, this exhibition features the works of Quratulain Dar (1st Prize), Safwan Bashir (2nd Prize), Sadia Rathore (3rd Prize), and Merit Prize awardees Bazil Habib and Imran Mughal.
Each artist brings a unique perspective and mastery of their craft to the forefront. Quratulain Dar, a graduate of Punjab University College of Art & Design, challenges societal norms through her exploration of gender dynamics and power structures. Safwan Bashir, specializing in miniature painting, prompts reflection on humanity’s relationship with nature. Sadia Rathore draws upon her Baloch heritage to shed light on societal injustices, particularly the plight of carpet weaver children. Bazil Habib’s vibrant compositions delve into the emotional impact of color and urban nightscapes, while Imran Mughal’s textile art advocates for multiculturalism and diversity.

“5 Sirius” invites art lovers to immerse themselves in a world of creativity and contemplation. The exhibition will run from April 26 to May 1, 2024, from 11 am to 7 pm at Gallery 6 Islamabad.
