Demands holding of plebiscite in disputed Himalayan state,

MIRPUR (AJK):   Inviting immediate attention of the U N Secretary General Antonio Guterres towards the plight of the Jammu & Kasyhmir people living either side of the line of control in the internationally-acknowledged disputed Himalayan state, the Jammu Kashmir Plebiscite Front has demanded of the international body to immediately move for holding plebiscite in the State in line with the UN resolutions to enable its population to decide about their destiny.

In an open letter addressing to the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, currently on visit to Pakistan, Chairman of the Jammu Kashmir Plebiscite Front Board Muhammad Azeem Dutt, Advocate, contended, on behalf of the central organization of his JKPF, released to the media here on Tuesday, “please note that according to the Independence act of India of July 1947, Kashmir became an Independent state under its ruler Maharaja Hari Singh along with India and Pakistan which emerged as two separate Independent countries under the Independence of India act.

Then Kashmiri ruler , Maharaja Hari Sing, offered “Stand Still Agreement” to both India and Pakistan. Pakistan accepted this agreement , However, India did not respond to this agreement.

This proposal was still in progress when India forcibly dropped its armed forces in Kashmir on October 27, 1947 against the aspirations of the people of the state.

The Indian occupational forces in Kashmir committed crimes against Kashmiris by mass killing and abusing women and children. As a result of deteriorating situation, it was then Indian government which took the issue to United Nations.

Both India and Pakistan agreed to give Right of self determination to Kashmir people under the UN Resolution S/1100 on August 13,1948.

Kashmir have been looking towards UN for implementation of its Resolution during the past 72 Years.

The Conditions have been worsening in both parts of the disputed Jammu and Kashmir. Since then India particularly have been deploying coercive tactics to deprive kashmiris of their Right of self Determination granted by the United Nations in 1948.

On August 5, 2019, India government unilaterally changed special status of Kashmir, already under its forced and unlawful occupation, without consent of its population and the “state government”.

Kashmiris have not accepted this recent forced change of states of Indain occupied Kashmir and are demanding freedom for entire Kashmir under UN resolution passed in 1948. As a result, they have been forced to live under curfew and without access to basic human needs for the last 198 days so far.

Please note that none of the above conditions in the held Kashmir are acceptable to Kashmirs and they are demanding freedom.

Therefore we requesting you to order for holding of the Plebiscite under the UN resolution S/1100 to decide about the Right of Self Determination of Kasmiris.

The time has now come when the community of nations should address this problem for the peace of region.

Granting this right to Kashmiris will bring peace between the two nuclear armed countries, India & Pakistan”, the letter concluded.
