ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) has reprimanded director zoo for want of proper look after and upbringing of animals in Islamabad Zoo.
Chief Justice (CJ) IHC Athar Minallah remarked Director Zoo and Mayor Islamabad are responsible for any harm to the animals. If harm is caused to even single animal in zoo then its responsible will not be spared.
The petition pertaining to lack of proper look after of animals in Islamabad Zoo came up for hearing before Chief Justice IHC Athar Minallah for hearing Tuesday.
Counsel for the petitioner said during the hearing of the case Islamabad Municipal Corporation personnel shoot and kill the stray dogs.
CJ IHC inquired what is responsibility of federation for prevention of stray dogs.
MCI officer replied “we kill stray dogs through firing only on the basis of complaint.
Chairman wildlife appeared in the court and took the plea that crocodile is facing life threat in Islamabad Zoo. Crocodile should be shifted to Sukkar or some other zoo .
The court reprimanded deputy director of Islamabad zoo. He took the plea that there is no threat to life of crocodile .
CJ remarked “ file an affidavit now if some harm is caused to crocodile then you will be responsible. Are you Muslim. You subject the animals to cruelty.
The director zoo took the stance that there are no funds to run the zoo.
CJ Athar Minallah remarked “ if there are no funds then animals should be shifted to some other zoo.
The counsel for petitioner said that death ratio of animals camped in Islamabad zoo is very high.
The counsel for petitioner prayed that the court should order for shifting the crocodile to natural park Bangole in Balochistan.
The counsel for petitioner told the court that there is no hospital for providing treatment to ailing animals of Islamabad zoo.
The CJ remarked no one has any right to torture the animals.
The counsel for Municipal Corporation admitted in the court that zoos in Pakistan are not upto international standard.
CJ remarked “ Bringing the zoos not upto international standard is source of grave concern for us.
The court while summoning report from secretary Meteorological office adjourned the hearing of the case till July 29.
