Muzaffarabad:(Parliament Times) Kashmiris around the globe observed the Right to Self-determination day on Saturday in remembrance of the resolution passed in United Nations (UN) on 5th January 1949.
A protest procession followed by a rally was held under the aegis of Hizb ul Mujahideen Jammu and Kashmir, protestors marched from Alamdar chowk to Burhan Wani Chowk and chanted slogans against India besides demanding UN to implement its resolutions on Kashmir.
Protestors were holding banners and placards paying tribute to the martyrs of freedom movement. It was mentioned on the main banner that our struggle will continue till our right of self-determination and liberation from India.
An old man was holding a placard stated that we were pledged by UN for not being victimized but still our brethren in Indian Occupied Kashmir are victimized by Indian armed forces.
While speaking on the occasion, Commander Hizb ul Mujahideen Tahir Ejaz said that we were promised of our self-determination, “India is trying to sabotage our freedom movement by the use of force but we will continue our struggle until we live; we (Kashmiri) are compelled to raise their voice against Indian atrocities” Ejaz said.
He maintained, “We still believe UN to fulfill its promise before long.”Chairman Pasban e Hurriyat Uzair Ahmed Ghazali said that Kashmiri have been deprived of their basic right of living for the last seven decades and still they are seeking the attention of UN, “International organizations must take practical measures for our right of self-determination; Solution of Kashmir dispute is inevitable for peace and stability in the region;” he reiterated.
He condemned the un-justified and illegal imprisonments of Hurriyat leadership in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir besides killing of youngsters in different areas of Jammu and Kashmir including Pulwama, Shopian, BejjBihara, Sopore, Bandipura, Kupwara and Srinagar and also expressed grief and anger on the use of pellet guns by Indian armed forces on a toddler Hiba Nisar and other peaceful protestors, “killing of more than 119 children in Jammu and Kashmir including Tufail Mattu in 2011 must be investigated internationally” Ghazali appealed to UN.
Ghazali added that the deteriorating situation in Indian Occupied Kashmir is negligence of International Organization due to which more than 0.5 million Kashmiri have been killed in this struggle since long.Despite of freezing cold weather and heavy rain, Naib Ameer Jamat e Islami AJK Sheikh Aqeel ur Rehman, Shamsher Khan, Mushtaq ul Islam, Shaukat Javed Mir, Muhammad Azam Ghazi, Usman Ali Hashim, Qazi Shahid Hameed advocate, Bilal Ahmed Farooqui along with many other representatives of political and religious parties in addition of civil society members were also present on the occasion.
People of Jammu and Kashmir appealed UN to implement its resolution as Kashmiri still seek their basic right of self-determination for the last 70 years and lamented it as the longest pending dispute on the table of UN.
