Rawalpindi: Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) has decided to take large scale action against owners of service stations in Rawalpindi.
WASA has also decided to impose heavy fines on owners of service stations found violating the government policy on ground water and bylaws enacted for this purpose. It is aimed at to check the theft of water and the use of water for commercial purposes sans the prior permission of WASA. Closure of service stations is also the last option.
The actions under the provisions of section 30 of the Punjab Development of Cities Act 1976, illegal water connections, installation of motors on water pipeline, illegal sewerage system and commercial water connections sans the approval of WASA are liable to be cut off. The main bases are cases of nonpayment, restoration of connections, disfigurement of the landscapes and damage the properties of WASA. Challan notices have also been issued to the owners of service stations and they have been summoned to appear before the competent court at different dates and if allegations are proved they will be sternly dealt with.
