Islamabad: With all preparation and arrangement to conduct Presidential Polls at Parliament House and Provincial Assemblies, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is all set to hold elections for country’s 13th President on Tuesday (Today).
Setting September 04 as the day of ballot, the ECP has shifted ballot papers and other required material to respective assemblies where the polling is to be held.
Pakistan People’s Party designated candidate, Aitzaz Ahsan’s name has been placed at the top of the ballot paper followed by Arif Alvi of ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and joint opposition candidate Maulana Fazal Ur Rehman.
Timing for polling will start at 10:00 am and will be closed as 4:00 PM as the polling will be conducted during the joint conference of Parliament and all the provincial assemblies.
Chief Election Commissioner Justice (r) Sardar Mohammad Raza as Returning Officer, while the incumbent Chief Justices of all the High Courts will be the Presiding Officers at their respective provincial Assemblies.
The ECP has handed over voter lists to presiding Officers which includes 1174 members of Senate, National, and provincial Assemblies.
Overall 1121 members of the Parliament will exercise the right to vote as 53 seats are vacant. Out of the 53, 2 seats in Senate, 30 in Provincial Assemblies, 12 at National Assembly are vacation whereas 9 MNAs and MPAs-elect have not yet sworn in.
According to ECP 102 Senators and 330 Member National Assemblies wills cast their votes.
Similarly, 354 MPAs in Punjab Assembly, 163 from Sindh Assembly, 112 at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assebly and 60 MPAs from Baluchistan Assembly will be able to vote for their presidential candidate.
Vote of very Senator and Baluchistan Assembly Member will go considered, while 5 votes of members of Punjab Assembly will be assumed as one.
