Islamabad: The underground water level in Islamabad is going down dangerously and it is feared that the residents of the twin cities would be left without water after about a decade.

Currently, the residents of Federal Capital sectors including I-10 and G-10 are facing acute water shortage for past many weeks. Sources stated that the residents of I-10/1, I-10/4, G-10/3 and G-10/4 are not getting their share of water. They have no option but to call complaint centres of the CDA.

On the other hand underground water level is depleting on a regular basis. In 2012, the under ground water level was five feet in Islamabad, in 2013 it went down to 7 feet, in 2014 10 feet, in 2015 to 12 feet and now in 2018 it went down dangerously to 25 feet.

The sources said that the under ground water level is depleting due to less rains and excessive extraction of under ground water by the fast expanding federal capital through tube wells and hand pumps.
A resident of 1-10/1 sector, Sheikh Manzoor said that supply of piped water is not sufficient and they are compelled to get water from tankers by paying handsome amount to them.

“We have no option but to call complaint centres of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to meet their daily requirements through water tankers” he added. Residents have appealed to the high-ups of CDA to look the alarming matter and solve it on urgent basis.
