The unsatisfactory literacy rate of women in our country calls for immediate attention of the higher authorities. Because of various cultural and social restraints, girls are not allowed to complete their education. In urban areas, since there are separate schools for girls, the literacy rate in these areas is higher. However, girls who live in rural areas are deprived of their basic right to education. Many poor parents who cannot afford the education of their children give preference to their sons’ education. It is the responsibility of the government to ensure that both boys and girls have an access to quality education.
