ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has issued notices to 147 government officials for concealing their dual nationality, six who are foreign nationals and to 291 officers for concealing the dual nationality of their wives.

A 3-member bench of SC presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar took up for hearing suo motu notice pertaining to government employees , judges holding dual nationality on Monday.

DG FIA appeared in the court and told he had filed two reports. Information of 144,848 out of 172000 government employees has been proved correct.

Inquiring about the officials having dual nationality CJP remarked substantial information has been received about dual nationality. Is there any possibility that more information will come.

DG FIA told the court information about dual nationality has yet to come from provinces.

The CJP raised the question whether a foreigner can be government servant.

Secretary Establishment Maroof Afzal told that foreigners can work on projects but that too with official permission.

CJP remarked “ if wife of a government employees is foreigner then is there any restriction on this count.

Secretary establishment told that officials have to reveal their and their wives dual nationality.

CJP remarked “ notice be not sent to those who have informed about their dual nationality voluntarily. Attorney General should inform with reference to future of officers holding dual nationality.

The court issued notices to 147 officers for concealing their dual nationality, to 291 officers for concealing dual nationality of their wives and six who are foreign nationals.

The court gave two weeks time to DG FIA for obtaining more information.
