SANGLA HILL: Elections for the Itehad Press Club were held at Sangla Hill, Nankana Sahib.
The polling opened at 9am in the morning and continued till 5pm. The atmosphere was one of celebration, with candidates’ supporters frquenlty shouting slogans ostensibly to garner votes for their camps. The stairs to the hall and beside kachehry road where the polling booth were fixed, were full of candidates, observers and their supporters throughout the day.
Banners, placards and stickers for various candidates were pasted on the surrounding walls. Some of the candidates and supporters handed out cards with pictures printed on them. Others resorted to more creative measures, such as playing a guitar..
Sangla Hill Itehad Press Club elected Dr. Muhammad Abbas as their President & Zufiqar Ali Malik as the Secretary General.
On the side of Islamic Union of Journalists, Mr.M. Rafiq Tahir nominated and elected as the President, Dr. M. Yaseen Vice President and Mian Rashid Asghar as Secretary-General.
It was informed by electronic & print mediamen saying that membership of the club had expanded considerably in recent years. “This is evident through the various campaigning methods and techniques used before the election.
Members are relying less on personal interaction with candidates and more on recorded calls and automated messages to access a large number of people,” SG Main Rashid Asghar said and added.
Dr. Muhammad Abbas had vowed to ensure job security for members and colony for Journalists on merit will be soon allotted.
They have focused toward the political figures for the plots should be allotted beside the canal side Sangla Hill for Journalists Colony, a recurring theme for the past few years.
