Islamabad : The National Assembly’s committee for parliamentary affairs has severely opposed to give the Roosevelt Hotel New York owned by PIA on lease and recommended to build more stories of it.
The meeting of the committee was held in the chair with Dr. Shezra Mansib Ali Khan Kharal in parliament lodges on Monday.
Acting Chairman PIA while briefing the committee told that Roosevelt hotel in New York was purchased by PIA with the total cost of 36 million US dollar and it earned profit 1.54 million dollar in 2017 and now 2.3 million dollar income is expected during the current year 2018 adding that now PM has proposed to give the hotel on lease.
Responding to a question raised by MNA Arifa Khalid Pervez, Acting Chairman PIA said that any staff member of PIA is not being terminated adding that government will control the management of PIA as per law approved by the parliament.
The officials of Ministry of Law in their briefing told committee parliamentarians are given 20 air tickets and vouchers worth Rs 3 lac to travel inland by air in a year. Similarly, free medical facilities are given to parliamentarians parents and their families in government hospitals, however legislation is required for their treatment in private hospitals.
The officials of PWD in their briefing to committee told that Ministry of Planning did provide funds for the maintenance and other works for parliament lodges in the country and all the income gained from state guest houses is deposited in national exchequer and even the 10 % of total income is not spent the maintenance of these guest houses.
On this, members of the committee have complained that some retired officers were living in these lodges for many years. On this officials told that some officers have sought stay order from courts due to which they are living in these lodges.
The committee has directed to present the list of these officers living in parliament lodges in the next meeting.
