Chittagong: Bangladeshi bastman, Momin-ul-Haq has become the first ever player to score hundreds in both innings of a Test match. The left-hander has completed the feat in Bangladesh’s second innings of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Chittagong.
He brought up his sixth Test hundred in 154 balls in the second session of day five. He started the day with 18 runs. He completed his fifty in 78 balls in the morning. Mominul soon got his possible match-saving hundred in the afternoon session by sneaking a single off Lakshan Sandakan on the fifth ball of the 71st over. He scored 176 runs off 214 balls in the first innings.
This is the 90th time a batsman has scored twin centuries in a Test match. Now every Test nation (except Afghanistan and Ireland) has a batsman to have hit two centuries in a Test match. No other Bangladesh had ever scored centuries in both innings of a Test match. Shakib Al Hasan could had been the first to do this. He scored 87 and 100 against New Zealand in Hamilton in 2010.
Mominul has now the most runs in a Test match for Bangladesh breaking Tamim Iqbal’s 231 (25 and 206) vs Pakistan in 2015 Khulna Test. It’s the second time he has scored 200 runs in a match, the only Bangladeshi to do it twice. If he scores 134 in this innings, he will be the first Bangladeshi to score 300 runs in a Test.
Reaching his sixth Test century, Mominul has hit his fifth at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. He is the 39th player in Test history to score five or more centuries at a single venue.
