Muzaffarabad: (Parliament Times) The Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir Raja Farooq Haider Khan has said that the property tax in Azad Kashmir was imposed by the previous PPP government at the fag-end of its rule in the region.

“The decision to this effect (imposing of property tax) was taken with malicious intent just a couple of days back when assembly was about to complete its tenure”, the AJK PM said this while talking to a delegation of property owners’ association that called him here on Tuesday. The delegation led by former AJK minister Khawaja Farooq comprised of Prince Farakh, Nadeem Ehsan, Sallahudin Shah and others. Speaking on the occasion the AJK PM told the visiting delegation that the PML-N had opposed the move when the issue was brought to the floor of the assembly.

He said that the incumbent government was cognizant of the grievances of the property owners’ association. He said that comprehensive policy regarding the matter would be evolved after due consultations with all stakeholders including the property owners’ association. He said that the tax defaulters of AJK will be included in the FBR list saying that matters related to it have been finalized with the FBR authorities. AJK Minister for Finance Dr. Najeeb Naqi on the occasion assured the visiting delegates that the date for filing income tax returns would be extended for the ease of property owners.
