Islamabad : US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said that the US expects Pakistan to take decisive action against terrorist groups, and warned that countries that use terror as an instrument of policy will only see their international reputation diminished, international media reported.
Speaking at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) days before his first official visit to New Delhi next week, Tillerson said that US President Donald Trump’s administration was “determined to dramatically deepen” ties with India.
Tillerson said that in the past decade, our counter-terrorism cooperation has expanded significantly.
Speaking about peace and stability in South Asia and especially in Afghanistan, Tillerson said that apart from India, Pakistan too was an important partner of the US in this.
“We expect Pakistan to take decisive action against terrorist groups based within their own borders that threaten their own people and the broader region.
He hoped that tention between Pakistan and India will be reduced on borders.
It is vital to mention here that US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson will Pakistan next week during an Asian trip that will also take him to the country’s rival India, a senior official at the US State Department.
It is believed that Tillerson will be meeting top leaders of Pakistan.
