The heartless terrorists in a major terror attack in restive Kurram agency killed at least four members of the valiant team that rescued the Canadian family from the region a couple of days back. According to report, those martyred included a Captain of the Pakistan Army and three jawaans of the Frontier Corps. Three jawaans also sustained serious injuries in the attack carried out with the help of a series of land mine explosions.
The Pakistan Army troops in a most daring and successful operation had on October 12 rescued five foreigners abducted in Afghanistan by the Taliban more than five years back.
Officials of the administration in Kurram Agency said the explosions, caused by landmines, occurred in the border town of Kharlachi as the Frontier Corps troops were on a patrol. Bodies of the martyred officials and three injured were taken to a hospital in the agency’s headquarters, Parachinar.
A search operation was kicked off by security forces after the incident across Kurram Agency that borders three provinces of Afghanistan and witnessed several cross-border attacks in the past. The troops martyred were part of search party for handlers of rescued foreigners. Those martyred included Captain Husnain, Sepoy Saeed Baz, Sepoy Qadar Khan and Sepoy Juma Gul while the injured are Naik Anwar, Sepoy Zahir and Lance Naik Sher Afzal. Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi expressed his deep grief and sorrow over the martyrdom of FC personnel in improvised explosive device blast in Kurram Agency. Sympathizing deeply with the bereaved families, the Prime Minister prayed for eternal peace of the martyred souls, who sacrificed their lives while defending the motherland against evil forces, and grant of courage to the families to bear this irreparable loss with fortitude, PM office media wing said in a press release. The prime minister also prayed for swift recovery of the injured FC personnel. Pakistan Army and other law enforcement agencies are rendering great contributions in war against terrorism and their sacrifices are increasing with the passage of the time. We paid glowing tribute to martyred soldiers who have sacrificed their lives for peace and stability in the country. The incident shows that war against terrorism is not yet over and it is still on. Concerted efforts are needed to clean all sort of terrorism from the country and Kurram agency should be focused. We hope scarifies of our valiant soldiers of law enforcement agencies will not go waste and will bring lasting peace in the country.
