Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, complete shutdown is being observed against the summoning of Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation President, Muhammad Yasin Khan by India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA). Khan has been asked to present himself before NIA in New Delhi, today.
Call for the strike has been given by the representatives of KTMF, Kashmir Economic Alliance and transporters, and backed by the joint resistance leadership and Kashmir Bar Association.
Shops and other business establishments and educational institutions are closed, while public transport is off the road in Srinagar and other parts of the territory. Strict restrictions have been imposed in Srinagar, while roads have been closed with concertina wires.
The authorities have also suspended train service across the Kashmir valley in view of the strike called by trade and transporters’ bodies. The decision about suspension of the train service was taken last night.
Besides Muhammad Yasin Khan, the NIA has also summoned Kashmir University scholar Aala Fazili to its headquarters in New Delhi today, while the agency has already indicted senior APHC leader Shabbir Ahmad Shah in a fake case.
Meanwhile, the joint resistance leadership in a statement issued in Srinagar strongly criticized the NIA for issuing notices and summoning Mohammad Yasin Khan, Haji Ghulam Nabi, Agha Syed Hassan, University scholar Aala Fazili, Dr. Naeem Gilani, Dr. Naseem Gilani, photograph journalists, Tehreek-e-Huriyat octogenarian leader Shah Wali Muhammad, Advocate Miya Abdul Qayoom, Mohammad Shafi Rishi, Noor Muhammad Kalwal and university students.
The JRL said that NIA was framing fabricated cases against pro-freedom leaders to defame freedom movement. It termed the move as a part of pre-planned psychological crackdown. It said that Hurriyat leaders, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Ayaz Akbar, Shahid-ul-Islam, Pir Saif ullah, Raja Meraj-u-din Kalwal, Nayem Ahmed Khan, Farooq Ahmed Dar, Zahoor Ahmad Watali and Kamran Yousuf were arrested and lodged in Tihar jail despite the fact that NIA didn’t get any objectionable material during its raids on their houses.
