Muzaffarabad: (Parliament Times) The President of PPP AJK chapter Ch. Latif Akbar has said that the incumbent government led by Raja Farooq Haider Khan was hell bent on to abolish Shariat Courts through legislation saying that the abolition of Sharia courts will trigger judicial crisis in the region.
Addressing a meeting of party stalwarts here on Wednesday he said that in criminal courts, besides civil judges Sharia court judges (Qazies) too hear the cases regarding Qisas, Diyat and other matters. He said that it is on the basis of their verdicts that an appeal is filed in the Shaira Court. The meeting was attended by Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, Syed Azhar Gilani, Zulfiqar Ali and others.
Speaking on the occasion Akbar said that damaging such kind of worthy institutions (Sharia court), which emboldens the Islamic identity of the state would be great injustice to the people of the state. Rather than destroying the national institutions he said that there was a need to strengthen such institutions in the region. He said that PML-N government has already disappointed the people of region by abolishing educational package, besides rendering people jobless.
It may be recalled here that the AJK Bar Council in had also demanded a repeal of the AJK Shariat Court Act 1993 and the abolition of the Shariat Court established under it to bring the ‘parallel judicial system’ to a halt. The bar council had maintained that Shariat Court Act was inconsistent and in conflict with the Interim Constitution Act, 1974.
