Srinagar: People staged forceful demonstrations at Hajin in Bandipora district, today, forcing the Indian troops to call off a cordon and search operation in the area.

According to KMS, people took to the streets as soon as Indian troops and police personnel launched a siege and search operation in Khos Mohalla and Wahab Parrey Mohalla localities of Hajin, early this morning. Raising high-pitched anti-India and pro-freedom slogans, the protesters pelted the forces’ personnel with stones, thereby disrupting the operation.

Indian police and troops resorted to heavy teargas shelling to disperse the protesters, triggering clashes between the demonstrators and the forces’ personnel. Later, the operation was called off due to stiff resistance from the people.

On the other hand, Indian forces’ personnel have launched separate cordon and search operations in Gund Dachina, Malikpora and Gujjarpatti localities of Bandipora district and at Adipora in Qaimoh area of Kulgam district.
