KARACHI: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi arrived in Karachi on Saturday to chair a high-level security meeting and also met with Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leaders.
On his arrival, the premier was received by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Governor Sindh Mohammad Zubair, following which he visited Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s mausoleum to pay his respects.In a meeting with the governor, the PM was briefed on initiatives being taken for development to gain the confidence of the business community. PM Abbasi assured the federal government will extend all support for development in the province.Afterwards, the prime minister met with a delegation of MQM-P. The delegation, comprising its chief Dr Farooq Sattar, Faisal Subzwari, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Kunwar Naveed called on the premier at the Governor’s House.He will also meet the business community at the Governor House.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi announced a state funeral for Dr Pfau, who, despite originally being from Germany, made eliminating leprosy from Pakistan her life’s mission. Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Saturday said the objectives of the government were economic growth, creation of jobs and increase in tax collection.
In fact, the objectives of the government and those of the
business community were the same. If the business community did not grow, the government would not be able to achieve its objectives, he said during a meeting with leading businessmen, including members office bearers of KCCI, FPCCI and Pakistan Business Council, at Governor House.
The prime minister assured the business community that their proposals for economic growth and increase in investment would be honoured, the need was to work in unison for achievement of the shared objectives, he stressed.
Governor Sindh Muhammad Zubair, Minister for Interior Ahsan Iqbal, Governor State Bank of Pakistan and Chairman FBR were also present during the meeting, PM office media wing said in a press release.
The prime minister said there was convergence of interests
between the government and the business community as both were determined for economic growth and improvement in business atmosphere in the country.
If the economy was not strong, the country would not grow, he noted.
He said there was much potential in the economic and trade
sectors and stressed upon the coordinated efforts to tap this
potential for progress and prosperity of our country.
Collectively, the prime minister said, they would resolve the
issues confronting them.
