LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif urged assembly members to give precedence to public service.

He advised MPAs to work rigorously to solve problems of people and play an effective role in transparency, quality and timely completion of developmental projects.

Talking about the Sahilwal Coal Power Project, he said 137-megawats of electricity was being produced from the second turbine. “Within a few days, a total of 1320 megawatts will be obtained through the plant, which is the largest coal-based electricity project in the country.”

The chief minister said that the government had promoted a new culture of speed, quality and transparency in developmental projects. He added schemes worth billions of rupees were being completed to improve education, healthcare and other social sectors.

Shehbaz said steps had been taken to boost education which was evident by the fact that thousands of additional classrooms were being constructed to provide better educational facilities. He added work on a mega project to provide electricity to schools through solar panels was also under way.

He said that the promotion of the agricultural sector was the first priority of the government and unprecedented steps had been taken in this regard. The CM added the Kissan Package had been helpful in increasing the per acre yield; while interest-free loans had provided relief to small farmers in the real sense.

He said technical colleges would be established in collaboration with China to train over 1,000 youth.

The chief minister maintained that past regimes were involved in corruption worth billions of rupees in the name of development. Shehbaz stressed Punjab had set records of loot and plunder during the tenure of former president Pervez Musharraf. “National resources were looted mercilessly, while our government has established an era of transparency and honesty, he added.

“The speedy completion of projects is unnerving our opponents and every step we take is for the people.”
