ISLAMABAD: Adviser to The Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz held meetings with a parliamentary delegation from the United Kingdom at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, a press release issued by the ministry said.
During the meeting, the two countries discussed strengthening of cooperation in the areas of trade and investment.
Aziz “highlighted the progress made by Pakistan during the last four years in counterterrorism, economic development and democratic consolidation,” the press release said.
The delegation paid “rich tributes to sacrifices made by Pakistan in counterterrorism”.
The delegation recognised the role the country has played in “promoting international peace and security as well as its contribution in regional stability,” the press release said.
Commending the role of Pakistani diaspora in Britain, the delegation called for greater interaction between the two countries.
The adviser also gave a briefing to the delegation regarding the country’s “efforts for regional peace and initiatives aimed at promoting regional connectivity.”
Aziz also informed the delegation of the human rights violations taking place in India-held Kashmir and informed them about the current state of Pakistan-India relations, the statement said.
The delegation from the UK arrived in Pakistan on April 2 and will complete its visit on April 8.
It is comprises ruling Conservative Party MPs, including Rehman Chishti, Nigel Huddleston, Mark Pawsey, Henry Smith, Matthew Offord and Royston Smith.
