KARACHI: Frontier Works Organization (FWO) delegation briefed Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah about the progress work on mega project K-1V Bulk Water Supply and Karachi-Thatta Dual Carriageway (KTDCW) timely completion. The meeting was attended by Local Government Minister Jam Khan Shoro and other officials of Sindh government, FWO and Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KW&SB). The Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah has lauded the role of organization and its landmark achievements on national level and urged the authorities of FWO and other concerned give priority of development in province to expedite more work on K-IV bulk water projects of Karachi people and other Sindh level projects. FWO Direct General Lieutenant General M. Afzal told CM Sindh that the smooth work on different mega projects including M-9, KTDCW K-1V and Liyari Expressway is continued and hope for timely completion of development projects accordingly. This project (K-1V) will provide about 650 million gallons per day (MGD) water to Karachi to meet water requirements in three phases, the requirement of Karachi is 1,100MGD, so that current supply is less than 550MGD from the executed projects of K-I, K-II and K-III, while supply from Hub Dam is around 100MGD. FWO Chief told that the work on first phase of the K-IV project from Keenjhar Lake to Karachi is in progress according to the 260MGD water in first phase and 260MGD in Second phase would be supplied to the Karachities. The project length is around 121 kilometers including canal 94.33 kilometers with RCC Siphon, canal lining and miscellaneous work. DG-FWO also informed Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah that the FWO has achieved its landmark in national projects within stipulated time and the work on Karachi-Thatta dual way carriage is about to complete in second phase 2017. He hoped the completion of remaining portions of the KTDCW to expedite their work to deploy more units and the manpower for early completion.
