The Indian government has finally reacted to local media reports citing the possibility of a bilateral Pakistan-India cricket series at a neutral venue later this year.

Indian Minister of State for Home Hansraj Ahir on Wednesday said the current environment does not allow for a series between India and Pakistan.

He added that the Home Ministry would review the matter whenever any such proposal is put forward.

Indian media reported earlier that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had written a letter to the Home Ministry seeking permission to play Pakistan at the neutral venue of Dubai later this year, to complete their obligations under the Future Tours & Programme (FTP) agreement which was inked in 2014.

Meanwhile, Indian Premier League chairman Rajeev Shukla expressed his unawareness about any such letter written by the BCCI to the Indian government seeking a go-ahead for the bilateral series.

“I have always held the stance that cricket should be kept separate from politics,” he was quoted as saying.

On the proposed series between the two nations, the IPL chairman remarked that the league would accept whatever decision the Indian government announces regarding the proposed series against Pakistan.
