BERLIN: Robert Lewandowski reached a century of Bayern Munich goals to help his team extend their Bundesliga lead to 10 points.
In his third season with the German champions, the Poland striker reached the goal landmark with a double in a 3-0 victory over injury-hit Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.
Bayern, who stretched their unbeaten run to 18 games across all competitions, capitalized on second-placed RB Leipzig’s 1-0 defeat at home to VfL Wolfsburg to stretch their already-commanding lead with 10 games remaining.
“A good day for us with good results also in other stadiums,†said Bayern coach Carlo Ancelotti, whose side are now on 59 points.
Lewandowski put Bayern ahead at the Allianz Arena on 38 minutes by netting Thomas Mueller’s final pass — the tenth league assist this season from Germany star’s who is struggling to score.
Brazilian Douglas Costa doubled their lead three minutes later, finishing off a quick break and Lewandowski perfectly converted a sweet cross from Arjen Robben 10 minutes after the restart for his 21st league goal of the season.
In Leipzig, Mario Gomez grabbed the winner for the visitors with his eighth goal of the season minutes to give new coach Andries Jonker his first win.
Borussia Dortmund could not take advantage of Leipzig’s rare slip-up, losing 2-1 at Hertha Berlin, who went ahead with Salomon Kalou’s strike in the 11th minute.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang equalised in the 55th but Marvin Plattenhardt scored what proved to be the winner with a brilliant free kick with 20 minutes remaining to leave Dortmund stuck on 43 points in third place and Hertha closing in on 40 in fifth.
Hoffenheim missed the chance to leapfrog into third after a 1-1 draw at Freiburg and remained fourth on 42.
Cologne suffered a setback in their quest for a European spot, with Anthony Modeste scoring twice but it was still only enough for a 2-2 draw at Ingolstadt to remain in seventh.
