MIRPUR: (Parliament Times) In the wake of the second leg of the combing operation by the law enforcement agencies in Mirpur city of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, police rounded up at least 49 suspects including six unlawful Afghan refugees from various parts of the town, police said.
When contacted, a senior Mirpur district police officer told this Correspondent here on Tuesday that on the special directives of SSP Mirpur Raja Irfan Salim, the local police headed by DSP City Raja Azhar Iqbal and the duty magistrate coupled with the intelligence agencies officials, raided the dwellings in various parts of the city in the wake of the continued combing operation under National Action Plan and netted a total of 49 persons including six illegal Afghan immigrants who were found residing without any lawful permission by the authorities.
The arrested persons also included some of the owners of local residential and commercial buildings who had provided shelter or jobs without getting their tenants registered with the local law enforcement agencies including police while letting their residential buildings on rent to those arrested persons hailing from various parts of the country.
In the wake of the intensified security in AJK, it is pre-requisite for the local landlords (owners of the residential or commercial buildings) to get their tenants registered with the local area police station by submitting their complete profile. The arrested persons have been sent to the local jail after Mirpur city and Thothal police stations registered against the arrested accused – suspects, according to the police.
It may be added that local police had earlier rounded up at least 400 suspects including illegal Afghan immigrants and the local facilitators during the combing operation in various parts of Mirpur district about a couple of weeks ago for living in the area without formal permission / registration.
The combing operation to net such suspects including illegitimate Afghan immigrants is underway in various parts of AJK including Mirpur division comprising Mirpur, Kotli and Bhimber districts
