LAHORE: Peshawar Zalmi captain Darren Sammy after winning the final of Pakistan Super League 2017 in Lahore said that it was more than just a game for him.
“To me, it’s just more than a game. It first started in the draft. Lala made the big announcement that I would be the captainâ€, he said, adding that the trophy means a lot to him.
Talking about his decision about coming to Lahore for the final he said that former Zalmi captain and flamboyant all-rounder Shahid Afridi influenced his decision.
“Lala influenced my decision to come here. I felt tonight I brought a lot of smiles in Lahore and Peshawar. It is an amazing dayâ€, he added.
Talking about the match Sammy said that they felt that 150-160 runs were a good score.
“We thought with the new ball we did well. If we get 150-160 it would be a good total. We did get to 148 and our bowlers have been doing well this tournamentâ€, he said.
Talking about his franchise, he said, “The Peshawar is not just a cricket team, we do a lot for the fans, the foundation. Thanks to the PCB, and the PSL. I am glad I came to experience the atmosphere.â€
Losing captain Sarfraz Ahmed said that the 149-run target set by Peshawar Zalmi was chase-able.
“We have chased bigger totals before this, but we failed to chase todayâ€, he added.
Gladiators captain said that Ahmed Shehzad was a positive for them this season and so were a lot of players.
He also thanked the crowd for their support.
Earlier, Peshawar Zalmi outclassed Quetta Gladiators by 58 runs in a high voltage match, in front of a jam-packed Gaddafi Stadium to win the Pakistan Super League 2017 trophy.
