ISLAMABAD (Parliament Times) – Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif has directed aviation authorities on Thursday to maintain international standards for repair of passenger aircrafts.

The premier has directed to complete probe of PK-661 crash as soon as possible.

According to the preliminary report, had the ill-fated aircraft of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) worked up to its capacity, the flight would have covered 33 aeronautical miles with the remaining engine and landed safely at Islamabad.

The meeting was attended by Interior Minister, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and officials of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

The initial report stated that the pilot gave out a Mayday call thrice and that technical system of the aircraft had not completely shut down. The plane did not go in a nose dive which suggests the system was functional at least to some extent.

PK-661 flight crashed near Abbottabad on Wednesday killing all 48 onboard. The aircraft was enroute Islamabad from Chitral.
