London:  A human rights conference titled “International Human Rights Day and Kashmir” was organised by the Vice Chairman Liberal Democratic Party Watford. A panel of distinguished speakers consisting of Lord Qurban Hussain, Professor Nazir Ahmed Shawl chief patron Kashmir concern UK ,Liberal democrat Parliamentary candidate for Brent Hina Malik,Mr. Sabir Gul president JKLF UK, ,Ccllr. Naseem Ayub former deputy Mayor Luton borough council and Sheraz Khan vice president Pakistan press club UK. The panel was chaired by elected Mayor of  Wartford Baroness Dorothy Thorn hill.
The conference was held in connection with the world human rights day which is usually observed on 10th of   December. To commemorate the adoption of universal declaration of human rights  conference was held to take stock of human rights crisis going on in Indian occupied Kashmir. In his opening remarks Lord Qurban Hussain  debated the systematic human rights violations which are continuing for the last two decades particularly during the last four months. He informed the house that he was taking up the matter with the Prime Minister Theresa May who has recently visited India. He accepted the reality that not much has been done by the  government and  emphasized that Human rights of the people are more important than the trade relations.
Professor Nazir Ahmed shawl gave a graphic picture of the degrading treatment adopted by the occupation forces in the Indian occupied Kashmir. he went on to say that there are no parallels to this kind of situation in the contemporary history of the world .Unethical use of pellet guns has deprived hundreds of people  of their eyesight. Kashmir is a graveyard peppered with the corpses of hopes and dreams desire and merriment. He endorsed the public utterance of UN human rights commissioner that an independent fact finding mission must be allowed in Indian occupied Kashmir.
Hina Malik  placed before the conference the pain and agony of women and children who are being brutalized by Indian military and paramilitary forces. She pleaded for the restoration of all the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir including their basic right the right of self determination
Sabir  Gul described the situation prevailing in Kashmir as very critical. He appealed to Kashmiri diaspora to  remain united on a workable agenda  and exert their influence on their respective parliamentarians in their constituencies so that the government of the United kingdom uses its influence to help resolve the dispute.
Ccllr. Naseem Ayub articulated the case of Kashmiri aspiration and said that there should be a visible presence of Kashmir in an honourable resolution process. The best road map is to allow Kashmiris to decide their future in a referendum held under the auspices of UN in a free and fair environment.
In her concluding remarks Baroness Dorothy  Thornhill summed up the proceedings and said that we should stand in solidarity with the people suffering human rights violations. This conference is sending the message of hope to the people of Kashmir and it was the bounden duty of every conscious person to rise up and speak to bring peace and honour the aspirations of the people
Vote of thanks was moved by Haji  Munir the organiser and sheeraz khan moderated the  conference.
