Muzaffarabad: (Parliament Times) The officials of Micronutrient Imitative (MI) and UN WFP held a meeting AJK Secretary Food, Raja Muhammad Abbas Khan and discussed important issues relating to food and nutrition. DR. Noor Ahmad Khan ,Senior Technical Advisor MI Headquarters and DR. Massod Abbasi, Policy officer Nutrition , WFP participated in the meeting. The Secretary Food  appreciated the MI and WFP  for their  commitment to Anemia  reduction and supporting  wheat flour fortification project in AJ&K. During  the meeting it was decided that wheat flour fortification project of food department  AJK Government with the support of micronutrient initiative (MI) and UN WFP will continue for another year.
Sustainability of the project, fortification as per WHO standards and post withdrawal strategy was discussed in detailed Noor Ahmad Khan proposed that food department should start necessary process to take over this project on sustainable basis .secretary food briefed that some important steps have already been taken in this regard and hopefully we shall be able to run this project during the extension period. Secretary food also requested for support for upgardation of food testing laboratory established under WFFP at Mirpur and establishment of two more labs in rawalakot and muzaffarabad . Both the MI and WFP team showed their commitment for any kind of technical assistance to the food department particularly for the procurement of premix even after the withdrawal of project assistance.
