MIRPUR (AJK: The Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Chairman Lt Gen Muzammil Hussain (R) today visited the under-construction Tarbela 4th Extension Hydropower Project. The visit was aimed at reviewing the progress on the project, WAPDA sources told The Parliament Times here on Wednesday. During the visit, the Chairman had a detailed round of the various sites of the project. Speaking on the occasion, he said that it is a matter of satisfaction that with concerted efforts of the incumbent management of WAPDA, construction work on the project has picked up the pace. He directed the project management to maximize their efforts for maintaining the pace of work, so that the project is completed as per the rationalized timelines. It is pertinent to mention that the 1410 MW-Tarbela 4th Extension Hydropower Project is a component of least-cost energy generation plan, which is being implemented by WAPDA on priority. Under Tarbela 4th Extension Project, three generating units – each of them having capacity of 470 MW – are being installed at Tunnel No. 4 of Tarbela Dam.
With completion of the project, generation capacity of Tarbela Hydel Power Station will increase to 4888 MW from the existing 3478 MW.
