SRINAGAR – In occupied Kashmir, Indian troops, in their unabated acts of state terrorism, martyred 17 Kashmiris including two young boys during the last month of October.
According to the data issued by the Research Section of Kashmir Media Service, these killings rendered one woman widowed and two children orphaned.
During the month, 1276 people were critically injured when Indian police and paramilitary personnel used brute force and fired pellets and teargas shells on peaceful demonstrators while 1548 civilians, mostly youth and Hurriyet activists, were arrested.
The troops and police personnel after barging into residential houses molested or disgraced at least 76 women, damaged 538 houses and looted hundreds during the period.
Life remained affected in occupied Kashmir for the 117th consecutive day, Wednesday, due to shut down against Indian brutalities in the territory.
Shops, business establishments and fuel stations in Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir remained closed while traffic was mostly off the road.
Restrictions on the assembly of people under Section-144 of the Criminal Procedure Code were in place throughout the valley.
On the other hand, the Chairman of Hurriyet forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement has said that Indian forces, taking advantage of impunity given to them under draconian laws, were carrying out a systematic genocide of youth in occupied Kashmir. He called upon the international human rights bodies to take notice of Indian brutalities in the strife-torn territory.
Hurriyet leaders, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Yasmeen Raja, Farooq Ahmad Tawheedi, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front and Muslim League in their separate statements in Srinagar said that the example of tyranny and barbarism that India was carrying out in held Kashmir could not be found in any part of the world.
Indian violence in the occupied valley has killed more than 100 Kashmiris and injured over 14,000 locals since the uprising that was triggered by the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani by Indian forces on July 8.
Moreover, at least 9000 Kashmiris have been detained during the three-month crackdown.
