Muzaffarabad: President Mamnoon Hussain on Saturday urged the international community

addressing joint sitting of the AJK Legislative Assembly and AJK Council in Muzaffarabad on Saturday he said the Indian leadership had taken the dispute to the United Nations, made promises with the Kashmiris to grant their right to self determination but later backtracked from its pledges.

Pakistan has kept the doors of dialogue open with India but unfortunately India remained adamant and continued to keep the people of Kashmir under its subjugation, he added. Hussain said that given the close affinities with Kashmiri people, Pakistan will continue to extend moral, diplomatic and political support to the oppressed Kashmiri people in their just struggle for right to self determination.

 

The President asked the Indian government to release detained Hurriyat leaders, abolish black laws,   lift curfew, stop the reign of terror and demilitarize occupied Kashmir. He said travel restrictions imposed on the Kashmiri leaders should also be lifted and international observers be allowed to visit the territory for investigation into human rights violations there.

 

Paying glowing tributes to sacrifices rendered by Kashmiri people, the President said the day is not far when the people of occupied Kashmir will also see the dawn of independence as no power  of the world can deprive them of their birth right.

 

Hussain noted that the freedom movement has taken a new turn since the martyrdom of freedom fighter Burhan Wani. He said the India claims to be the biggest democracy of the world but is not ready to accept the right of self determination of the Kashmiri people. He said there is no precedence of the atrocities unleashed by Indian troops in the held valley and regretted the silence and apathy of world community on the matter.

 

He urged the international community to take notice of these atrocities and warned that any further deterioration of the situation could lead humanitarian catastrophe in the valley where the  people are already faced with shortage of basic amenities of life. He was confident that the world community will soon break its  silence over the situation in IHK and while realizing its responsibilities will play historic role for addressing the Kashmir that is main irritant between India and Pakistan. The President also appreciated the resilience and courage of Kashmiri people residing along the line of control.

 

Hussain expressed satisfaction over the ongoing development schemes in AJK and assured that the federal government will provide all possible resources for provision of education, health and other basic facilities to the people of Azad Kashmir.
