Back in 1947 , when Pakistan got independence no one ever thought that just after 24 years united Pakistan will be divided. On 16th December 1971 , “Bangla” “Desh” came into existence after a year long civil war in East Pakistan. But even a bigger setback was the pack of myths that developed later on all baseless but connected to 1971 war. The biggest of all was the allegations of massacre of 3 millions Bengalis at the hands of Pakistan Army troops which were only 34000 in total and that too with limited weapons and ammunition covering 1500 Kms long porous non fenced border with India. At the same they had to fight the elements of “Mukti Bahini” in the streets of East Pakistan. This was a complete senseless accusation meant only to defame the reputation of Pakistan Army. Secondly, people of West Pakistan and troops of Pakistan Army were accused of raping 12000 Bengali women. The accusation is itself clueless because innocent biharis and west Pakistanis were at the mercy of Bengalis who were carrying out their bloodshed in the name of so called “War for Freedom”. These people had to gain shelters in cantonments SK the question of raping the Bengali women is out of equation. Apart from these accusations, one thing which we failed to learn was the way of narrating our history because we are taught only a paragraph or page pertaining to 1971 war, so our generations are far from learning the truth and sacrifices made in the line of duty.
