LAHORE: The Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) has launched a “Rehnumai Markaz portal” to provide timely information to students and solve their problems. Funds have also been released to 10 universities for research in health, agriculture, education and other fields. Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar in a meeting with Chairman Punjab Higher Education Commission Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid said that the provincial government is pursuing a policy of setting up universities in every district of Punjab. Work has started on the establishment of 15 new universities in Punjab province.
According to the details, Chairman Punjab Higher Education Commission Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid called on Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar at Governor House and presented him annual report. He briefed him about various projects of Punjab Higher Education Commission. Principal Secretary to Governor Punjab Dr. Rashid Mansoor was also present on the occasion.
Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar while appreciating the initiatives and role of Punjab Higher Education Commission as regulator and facilitator of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Punjab said the PTI Government is committed to raise the standard of education, adding that all Vice Chancellors have been appointed on merit and transparency will be ensured in universities at all levels. He said that the work of Punjab Higher Commission for the promotion of higher education and research in the universities of province is exemplary in all respects and its Innovation and ‘Research Challenge program is commendable’. Commenting on Establishment of new universities in the province, he said that this will promote higher education. Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar said that the PTI Government has purged the universities of the political interference and nepotism, adding that no compromise will be made on quality of education and injustice with students will not be tolerated.
Governor Punjab said that the global ranking of Pakistan’s universities has improved significantly which is a good sign, adding that but there is still a long way to go, for which everyone should work hard with honesty and dedication. During the briefing, Chairman Punjab Higher Education Commission Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid said that 1565 faculty members of universities and 3544 teachers of colleges were given online training during the Covid pandemic in one year.
While apprising Punjab Governor of smart class rooms initiative, Chairman PHEC said that commission has provided funds to the university of Home Economics Lahore, Government Sadiq College Women, university of Bahawalpur & Chakwal for establishment of smart class rooms, adding that work has been started in these universities on the project of smart classrooms which is a leap forward towards modern education. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid told Governor Punjab that the process of eight charter cases of HEIS of private sector has been completed and the issues of universities are being resolved on priority basis.
