ISLAMABAD:    Yousuf Raza Gillani joint candidate of PDM from Islamabad in Senate polls has written a letter to all government and opposition members of assembly to support him in the polls as he is contesting the election for the sanctity of the parliament.

He said in his letter Monday “ today we are standing at critical juncture of the history. What decision we take today will set future direction. I have taken the decision with deep deliberations to stand as candidate in Senate polls from Islamabad. On one side I am happy to know that Pakistani leadership has expressed its trust on me and on the other hand I realize the onerous responsibility attached to this trust. I have been part of the parliament since 1985 and my previous journey spanning over 4 decades is before you. I became speaker of national assembly in 1993 and I made no discrimination between the government and opposition members of assembly. I am proud of it and my rivals also acknowledge it. When I was elected as P rime Minister (PM) in 2008 I served as PM for all the parties and not for a specific party. The doors to PM house and my office were kept open to the opposition members too. Today we need this spirit of unity.

The letter further said the political and ideological differences are beauty of the democracy. We have to gather here today for the sanctity and honor of the parliament. I am contesting this election not to satisfy my ego or against the government but I am contesting the polls for the dignity and sanctity of the parliament which has elevated me and you in our status. I owe debt to this parliament. This parliament is my home. You all are my family. I hope that you will take your decision on March 03 taking into consideration my life, character and politics. I hope you will take decision in support of this parliament.
