Mujeeb Ali Samo;

The events of Karbala portrays the face of the good versus the evil, the virtuous versus the wicked, and the collision of Imam Hussain a.s (the head of virtue) versus Yazid (the head of impiety). Al-Hussain(a.s) was a revolutionary person, a righteous man, the religious authority, the Imam of Muslim Ummah.

Imam Hussain (a.s) as head of Ahlul Bayt (a.s.) never recognized Mu’awiya nor his followers. Before him, Imam ‘Ali (a.s.) had fought battles against Mu’awiya because Mu’awiya continuously violated the Islamic principles. Imam Al-Hasan (a.s.) had to swallow the bitter pill of making a peace agreement with Mu’awiya, in order to safeguard the security of the Ummah which was at stake.

When Yazid son of Mu’awiya declared himself as a ruler over the Ummah, he demanded Imam Al-Hussain’s (a.s.) allegiance of loyalty. Imam Hussain (a.s) on his part flatly rejected Yazid’s rule and behavior, for there was no way Yazid could represent Islam, it would be blasphemy. But Yazid, the tyrant ruler over the Ummah, was adamant in his demand, and tension between the two parties increased day by day.

The Karbala’s tragedy became the event, as a symbol of the victory of the oppressive majority over the righteous few. Three days after the battle of Karbala, Imam Hussain Ibn Ali was buried by his son. His infant was placed on his chest and his elder son at his feet. Bani Asad, a tribe who lived on the outskirts, assisted with burying the martyrs, and a tree was planted to indicate the grave of Imam Hussain (a.s). Until today, its old location is indicated by a door to the shrine called ‘Baab Al-Sidrah’ (gate of the tree).

Karbala tragedy reminds us that imam Hussain (a.s) gave preference to namaz. He considered this a noble act when you sacrifice yourself in the way of Allah. Imam Hussain (a.s) taught all humanity that Allah is pleased with one who prays Him in all circumstances.

No act is dignified other than the worship is the message that imam Hussain (a.s) conveyed. He resisted the Yazid ibn Muawiya because he had been practicing foul and evil acts which were not the essence of Islam. The evil, wrong practice, injustice, tyrant rule is disgraced by Allah. Imam Hussain (a.s) conveyed mankind a message that when you are on the right path then stand by it steadily even you are compelled to lose your life. Allah loves those who stand with truth ao justice. If today imam Hussain (a.s) is mourned by all humanity irrespective of any religion it is because imam Hussain (a.s) was on the side of truth and negated the falsehood. The ill practice and foul traditions are the representation of Yazid. Imam Hussain (a.s) overwhelmed the evil practices of Yazid while giving his life along with his family and followers. The sacrifice of Imam Hussain (a.s) is a dignified act which is mounted with grief by all the human being. We being a Muslim must understand that Imam Hussain (a.s) has sacrificed everything to save the religion Islam from the foul practice of Yazid. He prayed even though he was at the nook of the sword. So, we must follow the message of imam Hussain (a.s) and practice the teachings of Islam as ordained by Allah and preached by Prophet Muhammad (saw). The foul authoritarian governments must learn the lesson from the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (a.s) that the rule Yazid is ephemeral. The tyrant and dictatorial policies will always meet the tragic end. The truth is always victorious in all edges and times, Imam Hussain (a.s) hoisted the flag of peace, truth, justice, equality and bravery.

Thus, Karbala proved to be a clash involving Islamic truths versus falsehood, right versus wrong, belief versus disbelief, and the oppressed versus the oppressor, faith against brute force. Karbala was about standing in the face of oppression, regardless no matter the cost. Thus, in Karbala, Al-Hussain (a.s) the 57-year-old grandson of Prophet Muhammad (S), sacrificed his totality and all he had, for one goal. Imam Baqir reported that his grandfather suffered over 320 wounds from lances, swords and arrows. The tragedy of Karbala is an unforgettable event in human history. Imam Hussain (a.s) is religion himself who survived today and will be alive till the doomsday.
