Recently, a child abuse scandal in Thari Mirwah, Sindh surfaced on social media sites which has once again shaken the heart of many and has simultaneously caused anger among masses. As per reports, a video went viral on social media in which a retired school teacher Sarrang Shar at his tuition centre in Thari Mirwah City in Khairpur sexually assaulted a 10-year-old boy and has been allegedly involved in serial rapes and filming child pornography. The alleged teacher is believed to have been an influential person in the area. Reportedly, his past scandals were suppressed through his influence. It is being reported that the teacher accused of rape used to silence the innocent children by blackmailing them to
post their video’s on social media, if resisted. There are also fears that many child abuse videos can be in possession of the accused and few others may also be found involved in child pornography if matter is seriously investigated. Some believe that such cases may be a part of child pornography racket and sold to dark web as child pornography is widely watched and demanded online. Immediate investigation should be made that for how long the accused culprit have been making films of child pornography and for what purposes. Naturally, many questions raise here: why such crimes happen or how can it be
stopped?. In order to control such crimes it is suggested to appoint female teachers, installing CCTVs in every school class and tuition centers. There should not be a communication gap between child and parents. There are several laws on child protection and culprit often walk scot free owing to weak enforcement. Such cases speak volumes of incompetency of police and local media on their failure to report and take action under political pressure. It is undenying fact that the child is a vulnerable segment of a society. Such reported cases are just a tip of an iceberg. Abuse in any form is intolerable
and has severe negative mental and social consequences. Most people know crimes happening in their surroundings. Fear and cultural taboos often hold many victims back to report. Furthermore, our justice system is too weak where victims have to go through a lot to get justice and subsequently lose hope owing to lethargy and that is where one gives up. It is said silence is violence, the more people start reporting such cases, the masses will remain conscious and cognizance of the issue and thus take action
rather suppressing the case. There is no child safety mechanism within schools. Such incident calls for state’s urgency to take matter seriously owing to its sensitive nature. If law enforcement agencies won’t timely act, consequently, it will undermine confidence of victims in justice and the aggrieved will take law into their hands. It is vehemently urged to punish accused as per law before it is too late.
