Brussels: Chairman Kashmir Council Europe (KC-EU) Mr Ali Raza Syed has called upon the international community to stop recent illegal Indian attempts for demographic changes in the Indian occupied Kashmir (IOK).

In a statement while condemning the India’s latest move for introducing a new domicile law in the disputed territory, said, under the garb of the emerging corona’s pandemic, India continues its evil designs against the interests of the oppressed people of Jammu and Kashmir struggling for their right to self-determination.

It is important to mention that under the new Indian law, the domiciles have been defined as those who have resided for a period of 15 years in occupied Kashmir and those who have studied for a period of seven years and appeared in Class 10th /12th examination in educational institutions located in the disputed territory.

Mr Ali Raza Syed said, by repealing the Articles 370 and 35A in its constitution, India revoked special status of Jammu and Kashmir in August last year and now through new domicile law, it is attempting to change the majority Kashmiri population into a minority in their homeland.

Ali Raza Syed said, by the new domicile law India is paving way for non-Kashmiris to easily seek permanent settlement in occupied Kashmir.

Chairman KC-EU said, we shall raise our voice against the Indian evil designs including new domicile law at the international forums.

Ali Raza Syed said, there is no international legal validity of the new Indian Domicile rules in occupied Jammu and Kashmir as this territory has been already defined as a disputed territory under the UN’s security council for a long ago.

He added, new domicile law is illegal and a clear violation of the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions, international law including the 4th Geneva Convention and bilateral Agreements between Pakistan and India.

He said the only purpose of new domicile law is to change the demography of occupied Kashmir and weaken right of the Kashmiri people seeking self-determination through free and impartial plebiscite as per the relevant UNSC Resolutions.

He said, the new Domicile Order and Rules would not be acceptable by the Kashmiris as they are struggling for their rights for above seven decades.

Chair of KC-EU further said, the people of Jammu and Kashmir are facing a complete lock-down since August 2019 and as they are recently engaged in battle of survival against coronavirus, the Government of India took this this opportunity to impose news domicile against them.

Chairman KC-EU called upon the international community specially UN’s security council (UNSC) to stop illegal practices of Indian government including new domicile law in the occupied Kashmir. The international community should play its role for implementation of the right to self-determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. So, they could be able to obtain this right through a free and impartial plebiscite under the UNSC Resolutions.
