Muzafarabad:   (Parliament Times)    The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly session was held under the chairmanship of the Assembly speaker Shah Ghulam Qadir here on Wednesday

Law Minister Sardar Farooq Ahmad Tahir on the occasion presented the draft law “The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Medical Colleges (Governing Body Amendment) Act, 2020” in the House, which was unanimously referred to the elected body.

During the question hour, senior minister Chaudhry Tariq Farooq, while responding to a question put forth by Member Assembly Muhammad Saghir Khan said that water supply schemes were being constructed in different parts of the state to ensure quality water supply to the masses. He said that on the directions of prime minister Raja Farooq Haider state machinery has been activated fully to provide clean drinking water to people on priority basis.

He said that Thorar water supply scheme has been approved on 22-03-2018 at a cost of Rs. 184.953 million. “None of the areas included in the initial survey have been neglected, however, the areas which were neglected in the initial scheme have been reincorporated in the scheme”, the minister said.

He said that the total value of the work order is Rs. 157.447 million while the contractor has been paid Rs. 71.544 million so far. He said that Weir work has begun on the main source.

In response to call attention notice by Member Assembly Muhammad Sagheer Khan the Health Minister Dr Muhammad Najeeb Naqi Khan said, “The SOPs regarding the quarantine of people coming from abroad are finalized at the federal level and implemented accordingly in Azad Kashmir”. He, however, maintained that some changes were made in the SOPs later. “As per the amendments it was agreed that those coming from abroad should be kept in quarantine centers for 24 hours and subsequently handed over to their native provinces”, he said adding that AJK government has set up foreign desks at all entry points for people coming from abroad so that facilities are available for them.

Replying to a question from Member Assembly Pir Ali Raza Bukhari, Dr. Najeeb Naqi said that payment of arrears of state newspapers was being ensured and if lump sum payment of state newspapers was not possible, payments to state newspapers would be made on Eid.
